Growth often occurs in stages, as in the case of this Dutch Colonial style home that underwent two growth spurts a few years apart.

Phase 1 involved renovation of the existing house, shown here, along with a small addition and wrap around covered porch.
-
The first floor bath was relocated to make way for a new breakfast bay addition overlooking the pond, open to this wonderful new kitchen and the family room, to the left of out of view.
-
The formal living room borrows light with French doors open to the sun lit gallery space.
-
The family room and gallery connector open up to terraced steps that lead out onto the lawn.
-
A few years later we designed an extensive wing that includes a living room, office, sun-lit gallery, additional bedrooms and baths, and a two-story octagonal corner turret containing a playroom with a special bedroom above. We balanced the turret with a screened porch gazebo and wraparound porch at the far end of the house.

This gallery space is illuminated by a combination of three skylights and opposing sets of French doors that lead to the back lawn and the living room. At the end of the hall, a playroom sits at the base of the turret featuring a panoramic view and wonderful breezes through multiple sets of picture and double hung windows.

Although this house is significantly larger than the original, the overall Dutch Colonial character is maintained and enhanced.
